The National Registration Bureau (NRB) has today launched a pilot of an E-payment system that will digitize payment processes for National ID payments. This event was held at NRB headquarters offices at Capital Hill, in Lilongwe.
The launch of the E-payment system means that apart from being able to pay for NRB national ID services like replacement and renewal fee at the treasury cashiers office, clients will now be able to pay through NBS bank using its Mobile Application, USSD Service, Bank Pafupi Agents as well as Bank tellers across the country.
The launch was graced by senior officials from NRB including Principal, Director and Deputy Director of NRB, Director of e-Government, among others. NBS bank senior officials were also present at the event.
The Advisor for the Tony Blair Institute and the Presidential Delivery Unit, Mr Paul Ndungutse and Project Manager for UNDP Mr Azhar Maleek and Delegates from the UNICC
also graced the event.
According to the NBS Bank Head of Corporate and Investment Banking, Mr Alfred Nhlema, NBS bank has been a pioneer in digital solutions, and is a partner to the government in various projects. He also stated that NBS is grateful to the National registration bureau and the Malawi Government for choosing NRB as its partner in this E-payment project.
He assured the public that through the services of NBS Bank such as NBS Bank Mobile Application, USSD Service, Bank Pafupi Agents as well as Bank tellers across the Banks service centres, NRB clients will find it very convenient to make payments to the bureau across the country.
The Principal Secretary for National Registration Bureau, Mr Mphatso Augustine Sambo stated that NRB is one of the largest government departments as it services all the citizens in the country, but the bureau has faced challenges in service delivery. One of the challenges it has faced was in the issue of payments, and this partnership with NBS is an innovation that will assist the bureau to resolve this challenge.
The innovation of digital payments will bring improvements in service delivery as it will be more efficient for clients to pay for NRB services through the bank so that the clients will be assisted faster at NRB.
Currently, the system will be piloted in the Districts of Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzimba effective 10th February 2023 and thereafter rolled out countrywide.
